CiA® 458: CANopen device profile for energy measurements
CiA 458 device profile for energy measurements is designed to provide means to monitor and detect devices' with
- aging effects i.e. the devices consume more energy when they above their average life time;
- inefficient or too high energy consumer.
In other words, CiA 458 allows to implement condition monitoring of energy consumption of devices to increase energy efficiency in the network. In order to detect this, CiA 458 can be implemented as a secondary instance to all other CANopen device profiles (further logical device i.e. using the object dictionary entries from 6800h to 6FFFh.). This is used for example in lift control systems.
In particular, actuators already measure energy consumption internally. It is simple to provide this information to other devices (e.g. host controllers or human machine interfaces) by means of the object dictionary entries specified in CiA 458.
CANopen also specifies a device power saving capabilities in CiA 302-9. This is used for example in lift control systems.

CiA 301 version 4.2.0 CANopen application layer and communication profile |
ScopeThis specification specifies the CANopen application layer. This includes the data types, encoding rules and object dictionary objects as well as the CANopen communication services and protocols. In addition, this specification specifies the CANopen network management services and protocols. This specification specifies the CANopen communication profile, e.g. the physical layer, the pre- defined communication object identifier connection set, and the content of the Emergency, Time- stamp, and Sync communication objects. |
